The Argentine football club Racing must pay over 550 million pesos ($400,000) to the family of journalist Nicolás Pacheco, who was murdered in 2013. The amount includes the main fine, interest, and legal costs.


Racing Club Sentenced in Journalist's Murder Case

Racing Club was sentenced to pay 200 million pesos to the parents and brother of Nicolás Pacheco, a journalist who was murdered in January 2013 at the club's social headquarters in the Villa del Park neighborhood. According to information obtained by the Argentine News Agency, Judge Juan Sobrino Reig, in charge of Civil Court No. 1, ruled that the Avellaneda club must pay 200 million pesos to the victim's family. Additionally, an additional payment of 150 million pesos was designated to cover the fees of lawyers, experts, and forensic experts who participated in both the preliminary investigation and the trial. To these 350 million pesos, interest accumulated since the tragic January 24, 2013, was added, reaching a total close to 550 million pesos, equivalent to 400,000 dollars. In the early morning hours of January 24, 2013, between three and five-thirty a.m., Enrique Rulet, Aníbal Domínguez Butler, and Juan Carlos Rodríguez attacked Pacheco with blows at the club's social headquarters located at Nogoyá 3045, Villa del Park. In the autopsy, the Oral Criminal Court No. 23 described that Pacheco suffered 15 injuries, the most serious being a skull fracture and a broken spine. After the beating, the three men threw the journalist's body into the club's swimming pool. In 2016, the three accused were sentenced to twelve years in prison as co-authors of Pacheco's simple homicide.
